Pokémon Garbage Gold is an NDS ROM Hack of HeartGold by InsipidAxiom (also known as sauceyaTTa), combining **500 hours of development over 8 months** to create the first Gen‑4 decomp hack. Only “trashmons” (Pokémon under 425 BST) are usable, but over 300 Pokémon are available, including Gen 5–6 and Mega Evolutions—all delivered through hg‑engine C/assembly injection. The game includes custom maps, music, a rewritten post‑war Johto story, gauntlet challenges, and more.

Story

Set in post-war Johto, Garbage Gold introduces a brand-new story featuring “Shiny Sickness,” custom NPCs, and a ruined world. Join Celebi and Grovyle on a time-traveling journey through new regions like Kanto Wasteland, Crevice Cave, and Dark Crater.

  • Trashlocke System: Train only Pokémon under 425 BST. Even with restrictions, over 300 mons are accessible, making runs varied and strategic.
  • Gauntlets: Battles in series with no healing or switching, plus modifiers like permanent weather or Trick Room. QoL items (Rare Candies, Max Repel, Exp Share, Running Shoes) are given early as lore-based features.
  • Custom Trainers & Learnsets: Trainers are themed and balanced; every available Pokémon gets a revamped, useful move progression.
  • Expansive Encounters: Include Pokémon from Gen 1–6 plus Hisuian and Alolan forms such as Zorua and Sandshrew :contentReference.
  • New Moves: Adds modern moves like Scald, Volt Switch, Dazzling Gleam, and custom attacks like Shadow Shift, EarthShatter, Star Prayer, Supernova, and more.
